How To START Making Passive Income (And How I Do it)
In this post, I’m going to straight up tell you what passive income is and how it is possible to make it.
I’ll explain to you how I started making passive income, what I did, and what steps you can take to make passive income if you are interested in building something like this yourself, so stay tuned.
Passive income is essentially money that comes in while you are not working.

Let’s talk about what it really takes to make passive income, in my experience, for someone who consistently makes passive income now.
The number one thing is, yes, it’s possible to do it, but it’s not easy.
A lot of people will sell you on the idea that it’s really easy to do.
You’ve probably seen ads showing you how you can make money while you sleep and all these things, right?
While that is possible, it takes a lot of work to set it up. I’ve been in business for four years now, and it wasn’t until my third year that I succeeded in actually having something set up to successfully make passive income.
Everybody’s journey is going to be different, but I’m going to tell you that I don’t think there’s any super-easy way to set it up so that you can do it right now.
I like the quote that if it was easy, then everybody would do it.
It’s not easy, but it absolutely is possible.
What did I do?
I started with my interview coaching business.
What I decided was I’m like, “Okay, I’m really good at interviewing. I’m going to learn what people really need, what people are really struggling with, and then I’m going to offer them something.”
The first thing I did was offer my free guide, which is my 10 Examples Guide for Behavioral Interviewing Questions.
Once I started working with people, I realized that their stories, their interview stories, were something that people really, really struggled with.
Based on that, I was able to create an offering of massive value which got people to give me their email addresses and give them something for free.
Sometimes it’s actually really hard to get people to take something for free because there are lots of things that are given out for free.
It still has to be of massive value. Maybe you’ve downloaded my guide and you know that it’s very in-depth, and it’s very useful, and it’s very helpful, especially if you have an interview the next day.
That’s the first thing I did, identified something that people really, really needed and then gave them an offering for free.
On top of that, I decided, okay, well, if people are really getting value out of this, then I can create something that is worth a hundred times the value and I could charge for it.
I created a guide, basically the same, but it had 50 more examples, five-O.
I took all the examples from me, from my clients, from everywhere that I could find that were successful interview answer examples.
They were very specific, down to different industries, so IT, business analysis, marketing, administration, any industries from clients that I work with.
And I put all those examples into one guide so that you could have all of those examples laid out. People love this.
I charge $50 for this guide on my website.
And quite often, I will sell several of these per month. So I will consistently sell several $49 guides per month.
This took a long time to set up. The guide took a lot of work to create, and it took a lot of time to get that set-up, and then I offered a whole bunch of more stuff on top of it.
I had to offer massive value so that people would see it and be like, “Wow! This is such good value. $50 for what I’m really getting is nothing.”
Once all that was set up, then I was able to offer this product.
And now, quite often, I will wake up and see sales made of this product, which makes me very happy because it means that people don’t have to wait to get the help that they need.
They can instantly, whatever time it is, wherever they are in the world, they can buy this product, they can have it downloaded to their computer, and they can start going through and preparing for their interview.
Quite often, people will tell me that they’ve printed this product off, and that they’ve highlighted things in it, and they’re using it and they’ve got it in a binder.

That is how I was able to start creating passive income for myself, and that is the first passive income product that I created, one of many.
It is definitely possible to create passive income, but it is definitely not an easy thing to do. And people won’t tell you the real whole story.
You’ll see people that’ll say, “Oh, you can make money while you sleep. You can live from your laptop. You can do this. You can do that.”
And yes, maybe that’s possible, but it’s not as easy as they’re making it seem, and they’re not sharing with you the whole story.
It took me at least 10 tries to get something that somebody would want to take for free, that they would want to give me their email address in exchange for.
Then once I was getting that, some traction with that, then I was like, “Okay, I can build something now that is a hundred times that,” and then charge for it.
The moral of the story is passive income is definitely possible to achieve.
It’s a lot of fun, but it’s not easy to do. It’s totally worth it. I’d absolutely recommend that you work to set up a business for yourself where you can make passive income.
I’ve had a lot of fun creating it, but it has been a lot of trial and error.
