What if everything you’ve been practicing for your interviews is actually the last thing that needs to change?
Most people think the key to better interviews is better answers — more rehearsing, more polishing, more perfect responses generated by AI. But what if the words were never the real problem? What if the thing interviewers are actually reading has nothing to do with what you’re saying?
In this episode, Natalie is back with fresh insight from a experience that reignited everything — landing her best job yet — and a client breakthrough that perfectly illustrates why thought and feeling will always outperform action alone.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
- Why rehearsing perfect answers can still leave you walking out empty-handed
- The “thought bubble” concept that reveals what interviewers are actually picking up from you
- The exact mindset shift that helped one client go from apathetic and rushing — to owning every answer
- What Natalie was thinking and feeling during her own successful interview — and how it shaped every response
- Why your humanness in an interview will always outperform the most perfectly crafted AI answer
This episode goes deeper than tactics. It gets to the invisible layer that separates candidates who keep getting passed over from the ones who walk in and feel different — because they are.

The key to interviewing above the rest. Welcome to the podcast today. This is Natalie Fisher. I’m back. Can’t wait to share with you. This episode is called the key to interviewing above the rest, and I’m going to be sharing my new offer. So stay tuned. Hey there, I’m Natalie Fisher. I’m a six figure business builder, a mom of a two year old, the recoverer of a 10 year narcissistic relationship and now in a super healthy one. And most of all, I’m a human who’s figuring this out with you. This podcast is about how to use your mind to thrive in your career and create the subconscious breakthroughs that you need to get there. The subconscious blocks that you don’t even know you have to achieving your highest levels of earning and your best zone of genius, moments and days in the flow. That is my goal for you. Let’s dive into the episode. And before we dive into today’s episode, I want to remind you that I’m the coach who is always going to point you back in the direction of your own wisdom. And so before we get started, I want to remind you, listen to your own wisdom first. This means listen to yourself first and me second and anyone else for that matter. Take what resonates and throw away what doesn’t unapologetically. I won’t be mad. I won’t be offended. In fact, I will be proud of you for doing so. Because I know from a lot of personal experience that anything is only as effective as the amount of resonance that it has within your uniquely built brain. And something is only going to work if it feels right to you and if you believe in it. Or if you want to do the work to believe in it. And that’s what I’m here to help you do. Your inner wisdom is infinitely more valuable than mine when it comes to getting your outcomes and for what you are here to do on this planet. So I’m here to help you steer that wisdom in the most powerful way possible. I’m so happy you’re here. I’m so glad you’re here part of this. I’m so glad we’re here on the planet at the same time. Let’s dive into today’s episode. Hello, hello, this is Natalie Fisher. Welcome back to Get a Six Figure Job You Love and Thrive. We’re recording a podcast today on why your interviews are not going well or why you think they’re going well, but they’re not getting the result. So stay tuned. Hello, hello. It’s been a while, y’all, since I’ve recorded a podcast and I’ve got lots of updates. So as some of you know, I started a new job and I launched my new product called Offer Accepted, which is the detailed account of how I landed this new job. And I’m still coaching. So I’ve had a lot of questions about, you know, what is the job and… are you still working your business? And I’m gonna answer all of that stuff as I go. Yes, I’m more into coaching than ever. I’ve been waking up at 5 a.m. to coach my clients in Europe and working on Saturdays to coach clients in the morning and just making it work until I have a little bit more familiarity with my new job and then I can kind of have a little bit more flexibility. But I am… learning so much about what it really takes to land a job that you love and that you’re in competition with a lot of other people. And maybe those people are better on paper and maybe they do even deserve the job more than you in some cases. But interviewing skills being the thing that can actually set you apart anyway and you can actually get the job. I was inspired to come on and record. I have actually a lot of episodes planned now because this experience has just reignited me in my business. But I just had one client who I’ve been working with and she’s in the UK. And I wanted to kind of share a little bit about what we worked on with her because I think it would be really helpful for you as well. So she was realizing that she was rushing through her stories a little bit. her thoughts were, and this was the revelation that she had was that it wasn’t her content. wasn’t what she was saying that was the problem. It was her thought and feeling behind it. So she had strong content. She had good stories to tell. And I think that’s the case with many of you listening. You have strong material. You might have a strong background. You you might have thoughts about it not being perfect for the role or whatever, but you have the ability, you have the capacity of the capability. And it’s about presenting that capability and capacity and in a way that other people are thinking what you want them to be thinking. So it’s the thought and feeling that you have behind how you speak that is going to actually make the difference. So my client, we discovered her thought and feeling. were that her answers were too long and that she didn’t have current answers that they weren’t from too long ago. And she wasn’t sure that that’s the one she should be sharing because it wasn’t recent. But that’s the one she wanted to share because it was the most powerful. And so the coaching I gave her was your intuition is saying you want to share that answer. There’s a good reason for that. And you could share something more current, but you’re choosing to share that one for a reason. And you need to trust yourself because that’s another thing I noticed that she wasn’t doing was she wasn’t trusting herself. She was second guessing herself a lot with a lot of the things that she was thinking. And really, the second guessing comes up. So it’s like when you’re interviewing, if say you had thought bubbles above your head and these thought bubbles are saying how you really feel right now. That’s what the interviewers are really reading. They’re not just reading your words. They’re reading those those thought those imaginary thought bubbles above your head. So what would those thought bubbles be saying if they could see you? So for her, I said those thought bubbles might be saying, oh, this is getting too long. I need to wrap this up. This is too long of a story. And she was and that was leading her to kind of rush through it. And I pointed out that that kind of signals to the people in the room. that what she’s saying is not important or she doesn’t believe what she’s saying is important because she feels the need to rush through it and get be have it be over. Right. Whereas if you are comfortable, you know, taking up that space and owning what you’re saying, like owning your answer, being like and these are the new thoughts I gave her. I was like, what what I’m saying is important. The details I’m sharing are relevant. I need to share this information so you know that I’m the right person for the job. then she’s gonna show up a lot differently. She’s gonna speak a lot differently. She’s not gonna rush through her answers. She’s going to own the fact that she has an important story to tell. And so if you’ve worked with me before or you know about my work, I use the model, which is circumstance, thought, feeling, action, result. And so the circumstance in this case is the interview. And then it’s gonna be the thought and feeling that fuel your action. So if you’re trying to just change from the action line, then you could do a lot of things. And that’s what many clients have done. They’ve like rehearsed their stories, practiced the words over and over, gotten AI to give them the perfect answers, and then try to memorize those perfect answers, trying to get um other people to review them and approve them and tell you that they’re good enough and validate you. um even going to a speech coach to try to speak more eloquently. These are all actions that you take. But if your thought and feeling are not aligned, your action will be very hard to change. It’ll feel like you’re pushing a boulder up a hill. So you can take all those actions that I just mentioned. But if your thought and feeling remain, I don’t really know if I’m telling the right story. They’re too old. I don’t really have anything that’s new. I ramble on, I’m not very sharp or eloquent when I speak. Like if that’s your narrative, your thoughts, your feelings are always gonna be a little bit insecure, uncertain, tentative, right? And those are feelings. And then your action is always gonna show up. That thought and feeling is always gonna be showing up in your action. So I thought it might be helpful for me to share my thoughts and feelings from this most recent successful interview. So I had a interview, I’ve started a new job. um It’s the best job I’ve ever had and I was so grateful to have it and there were just a lot of reasons why I wanted to get a job but I’m so glad I did because now it’s just it’s just reignited my my my love for teaching of job interviewing and career advancement and all the stuff I love talking about. So my thoughts in this interview were when I got a question. It was just like my feeling was excitement and my thought was I’m thinking my feeling was excitement because I I was excited to answer the questions and my my thought was probably something like, oh, yeah, that’s a really good one. Where do I where do I want to take this? You know, and I’d have like a couple of things in my head and then I choose one. And it was more approaching it from a place of uh fun. Like, oh, yeah, this is fun. Let’s let’s talk about this now or let’s tell them about this or you know it was it was from a place of like excitement and fun and or it was more my thought was like oh yeah i’ve got a good example for this or oh yeah i know i need to get this in this is the best opportunity to tell them about this story and so and it was just all it all just came back to me really naturally because i’ve been teaching this stuff for 12 years and i’ve been helping clients with it for a long time as well. So it’s just like, this is what I’m supposed to be doing. So when I was speaking my answers, if they were reading thought bubbles above my head, they would probably be reading something like, oh, wow, she’s really enjoying herself. Oh, wow, she really knows what she’s going to say. Oh, wow, she’s got a lot of stuff to talk about. Oh, she’s got a lot of answers that we haven’t heard before from any other candidate. Or in some cases, I’m I know they would have been thinking or I think they would have been thinking, can’t know. Oh yeah, that aligns with our culture. Oh yeah, that’s definitely kind of along the lines of what we’re doing here too. Like these are the thoughts that I predicted they would be thinking based on what I was thinking. And so when you align your thought and feeling, your action follows more easily. If you don’t align your thought and feeling and you don’t take the time to align, how you’re thinking about things and how you’re feeling, then your action can feel like pushing a boulder up a hill and it can feel like no matter what actions you take, nothing is working for you. So the thought and feeling need to align. So with my client, we changed her thought model or we gave her some options for some other ones. So she came into the session thinking, I don’t sound confident, my answers aren’t sharp, my answers are too long, I’m not really that eloquent. um And so her… interviews were were not going well. She was showing up in these interviews kind of a little bit apathetic, like whatever. doesn’t matter what I do. It’s not going to work anyway, because I don’t sound confident. My answers aren’t sharp. This isn’t up to me anyway. I don’t really have control over this process. It’s just it’s luck of the draw. Who knows? Right. And so with those thoughts, her feelings were either insecure and like not the opposite of confident. uh or apathetic, kind of like, I don’t care. Right. She’s like, I’ll go and I’ll just say whatever. And I don’t care. And then and then the result was that she wasn’t giving herself the chance to get the jobs that she was interviewing for because she was showing up like she didn’t care. She wasn’t putting in the effort to ask the questions that she knew she could have been asking. She was kind of letting herself off the hook and saying, yeah, it’s too late. I can’t ask that now. Like whatever. I don’t care anyway, kind of thing. And so With that attitude, obviously her interviews were not going to continue. They were gonna continue the same way unless she was able to make a shift, which she did in the session to some different thought models. So the different thought models that we kind of came up with, and this is what we do in a session, this is how coaching works, is you kind of get a look inside your brain. You’re like, oh, okay, I see that’s what I’m doing, and that’s the result I’m getting. Interesting, okay. Then you can kind of gain some some visibility into your own mind and your own operating system, and then you can change it. But before that, you might not even know you’re doing it, right? Like she was operating from, just need to change my action. I need to do something differently in my action. And that wasn’t working because when we try to change from the action place alone, we ignore our thought and feeling. And for operating with the same thought and feeling, the action won’t have any won’t have much more effectiveness. So the new thought models that we kind of suggested for her, there were many of them, were things like, I, there’s a chance I get this job. There’s a chance I can do something to influence this job being mine. There’s a chance I have unique stories that are going to stand out. And this is kind of what’s called the bridge thought. We’re going from, I’m not confident, I’m not eloquent to there’s a chance that I have something other people don’t have. Right? And we’re just kind of introducing that to your brain as like, hey, maybe you’re wrong about this. Maybe you’re wrong about not being sharp. Maybe you’re wrong about your answers being too long. And maybe those things aren’t as important as you believing that, hey, you actually have a real shot at getting this job. Right? You have a real shot that you’re unique enough to get this job. You have a story to tell that other people don’t have. Right? And these are just like going more to neutral because we’re like, yeah, this is neutral. you do have a story that nobody else has, right? That’s truth, right? And so she might’ve said before, but it’s also true that my answers are too long, right? And I would’ve said, well, maybe, and maybe that’s not such a big deal, maybe that’s not gonna be a deal breaker, because I mean, with her specifically, her answers were not too long. That was in her head. Like, if someone was telling a story and they went on for nine minutes or something, I might be like, okay, yeah, that is too long, right? But she told, and… an adequately uh timed story, but in her head it was too long. And that’s why it sounded like she was rushing through it because she wasn’t sure that people would want to hear it. She wasn’t sure it was valuable enough. She wasn’t sure if it was the right one. So in her brain, she was like, OK, I wrap this up. I better finish it. I better I better just be done now. Right. And that is going to be felt by the other people in the room. Right. So the other models we came up with her were, I’m the perfect balance between eloquent and human. Because I was explaining that in an interview, you also need to be human. So while a lot of people might be trying to come up with the perfect AI answers in the moment, they might be trying to be like, AI gave me that answer and it so good. And I want to say that it’s like your humaneness is actually what’s going to get you the job. It’s not going to be the perfect AI answer. Because like I said, thought and feeling are the most important things on moving the needle for change. for creating what you want. And if you’re thinking and feeling that you’re not sure if you’re good enough, you’re not sure if you’re able to do this, you’re not sure if you ever have any control over this process, so what does it matter? You could give the perfect AI answer, but if that’s the thought bubbles that people are reading, then it doesn’t matter what the words were, right? And I always say it’s not about the words. The words are important, but it’s like the energy. Words and energy together. And the energy comes from your thought and feeling, right? So I’ll give an example of one of the questions they gave me in the interview. They said, how do you um make sure that you’re being accurate with your work? I believe that was part of the question. In the deep dive offer accepted, I have actually broken down every single question they asked me, every question I asked them, every single detail. I did a huge debrief on it. um It’s available. We’ll put the link in the show notes if you want to sign up for that. It’s a very, very accessible price point because I wanted everybody who needed it to to get access to this. But I’ll give you one example here. So they said they said to me, what how do you make sure that you’re being um accurate with your work? And this is an answer I really felt into. So I paused for a second. I looked up and I said, I think for me, it’s. being really present with what I’m doing. So I’m not trying to rush through it to get it done really, really fast. I’m actually looking at what I’m doing and paying close attention to it. And I’m just enjoying the process of being thorough. And as I say it right now, I don’t know if you can feel my energy, but I was actually using hand gestures that were steady, right? I was like, so I’m just being, I’m being thorough and looking at what I’m doing. I’m enjoying the process of being present with my work. Right. And I slowed down and I made hand gestures and I can’t show you, but it was it was a feeling. It was a very felt answer. And then I expanded a little bit and I said, and you know, if if I don’t if sometimes if, for example, and I would bring in my own examples, even when they didn’t ask for them, I tried to give an example wherever I could. I said, for example. If there’s something like a big document I’m working on and I’m actually like, I’ve been working on it for a while and I’m too close to it, I might ask a colleague to be a second set of eyes for me because I realized that I can’t catch everything. Right. Or I might double, triple check and then get a colleague to be a second set of eyes for me. And I said, it depends on what I’m working on. But my general philosophy is just to be present and not to rush through. So quality over quantity, because I I realized that when I try to rush through things, then they often end up taking me longer because I have to go back and fix mistakes anyway. And so that’s something I’ve learned in my career. It’s just slowing down in order to complete really thorough work. And that was something to the effect of my answer. Right. And so that answer was something that they felt like I felt it. I felt it so strongly and I felt myself, you know, being thorough, being truthful in that answer, being so congruent in that answer. And I knew that they could also feel that, right? So if I had said something like, instead I had said something like, oh, you know, I just double, triple check things and I get them done really fast and I’m really accurate. And that’s just, that’s always how I’ve worked. And that was it. That would be a very different energy of an answer, right? But this answer, it made sense to kind of slow down. purposely be present with the answer I was giving, embody my answer there in the room and they felt it, right? So that’s just one example of something that can be felt and an influence you can have in the room where you can kind of embody the answer right there as you’re giving it. So it was kind of meta if we look at it that way, because they’re asking me how I make sure that I’m doing quality work and I was slowing down to give a. quality answer, give an example, go through the example, and give a couple of different ways that I ensure that I’m doing quality, accurate work, right? So that’s one example. And if they were to see my thought bubbles, my thought bubbles would have said, wow, she really does enjoy quality work. She really has learned this lesson in her career. Obviously that is who she is now. Like. That’s what I’m, guess is what my thoughts would have said because that’s what I was thinking and feeling and therefore my answer came out. Now I didn’t prepare for that question. I didn’t know they were gonna ask it, but I dropped into my body and the feeling of that answer. So thought and feeling, the moral of this episode or the point of this episode is to say if you have been practicing your interviews, if you have been going on a lot of interviews and not having the results you want, if you have been doing a lot of things, it’s not gonna be about the doing that makes you change how you show up. It’s gonna be about how you think, what thoughts you choose, and what feelings those thoughts give you. So thoughts and feelings, go hand in hand. A thought creates a feeling, and then the feeling creates an action. And the most mind-blowing thing for me was to realize it’s not about my action, it’s about my thought and my feeling. that will fuel my action. And once I align my thought and feeling, my action becomes obvious, it becomes clear, and it becomes easy. And this is something that if you take to heart, if you’re like, okay, it’s possible for me with different thoughts and feelings, my same background, my same education, the same job market, the same circumstances, it’s possible with with my thoughts and feelings, I can create the result that I want of a job offer. I can create the result that I want of a promotion. I can create the result, whatever you want in the result line, you can put in there. And then it’s about aligning the rest of your model. All right, that’s what I got for you today. So happy to be back here on the podcast. I will be recording these regularly now, so I will see you next week. And if you wanna get in for Offer Accepted, We’ll put that link in the show notes and I will talk to you soon.
