If you do love reading, let’s get back to it…
Identify What You’re Feeling
What is the feeling you’re feeling, identify it and give it a name, so is it uneasy, nervous, jittery, self-conscious, uncomfortable, afraid, fear etc.
Identify The CAUSE Of Your Feeling
Become aware of your thoughts and what you’re thinking The reason you’re feeling this feeling is because of the thing you are thinking. It is literally a sentence in your head that is causing that feeling.
So for example here are some common ones:
- I’m not good enough
- I’m not qualified for this job
- There are so many others better than me for this
- Who am I to deserve this job
- I am not going to get it, because I didn’t get the last one
- What if they don’t like me
- They’re not going to like me
- I always fail in interviews etc. etc.
- If I act too confidently then they will think I’m too arrogant
Take Notice Of How Those Thoughts Make You Feel
Notice how when you say those things (or whatever your sentence is that you’re thinking) it makes you feel the feeling that we talked about (uneasy, nervous, uncomfortable) etc.
Then Notice How The Feelings Control How You Show Up
When you feel this feeling, that feeling controls how you show up, and how you appear when you get into the interview.
It dictates how you perform in the interview and how you handle yourself. And if you’re feeling those feelings of unworthiness, then you aren’t going to show up very confidently.
How You Show Up Dictates The Results You Get
When you show up like this and you don’t get the job, your thoughts get confirmed and then you get worse and your confidence goes down farther and farther, you start to see more evidence of what you were thinking is the truth.
I.E. I wasn’t good enough, see I knew I would never get that job, I knew there were more qualified people etc. and it becomes true for you.
Change The Root Cause – Your Thoughts
How do you change this?
Well, you change the root cause which is that sentence in your head and the thought you were thinking around it which caused how you felt, which caused how you showed up.
So before I go, I want to share a thought that can ignite your self-confidence and that is: “I’m more prepared than any other candidate for this interview, therefore I am going to crush it”
